You Don’t Need a Phone to Cold Call

by Madonna on December 11, 2012

We tend to think of cold calling as that terrifying activity in which we pick up the phone and pitch our offer to a complete stranger.  But it doesn’t have to be like that.  There are other ways to connect with those we don’t yet know and develop a relationship which might start the sales process.

  • Private Message on Facebook

This approach is much easier than cold calling, but it can have a similar positive result.  I sometimes send a private message on Facebook to friends or friends of friends if they publically share a problem that I know I have the solution for.

This might sound a bit cheeky, but I have had many issues in my life and I know how painful they can be.   It is only recently that I have discovered the amazing benefits of Young Living Oils and I am so cross that no one has shared that knowledge with me previously.

Therefore, I have no hesitation in sharing my knowledge and my skills with others even if that involves payment on their part. I have gladly paid many thousands of dollars to solve my own problems.

  • Canvassing Door to Door

Not as threatening as cold calling is to some people, canvassing door to door is a great way to make personal contact.  All personal contact is valuable to your business.  You’ve only got to be familiar with the idea of 6% of Separation to understand why.  Depending on what your product or service is, canvassing in person can be a rewarding and successful way to build your business.

If you are a network marketer in the health and beauty industry, speak to salons and related businesses in your area about your products or services.

If you are a massage therapist, drop off some flyers in office rich locations offering 15 minute head and neck massages for the staff.

If you are a life coach visit all the local offices and offer to give presentations on stress management.

  • Emails

Sending an email is not as personal as door or door canvassing and might be the first move for someone needing to generate new business but feeling a little reluctant yet to embrace  cold calling.

Why not consider sending an email to other businesses suggesting possibilities for joint ventures.

And of course there is always Snail Mail.  You remember when we received actual letters and not only invoices?  Sending a personalised letter with a hand written envelope could just  be the strategy that sets you apart form the crowd.

See, you don’t need a phone to cold call.  All you need is a litte imagination and a slight dose of courage.  What are you waiting for?
